Foundation Excavation & Backfill

Footers, foundation digs and backfill, done on the schedule a builder needs.

We dig a lot of foundations. Footers, foundation excavation and backfill are the bread and butter of Valley Brook Services, and most of that work is for area home builders, where our crews dig more than 250 houses a year. If a project needs a foundation dug on a builder's schedule, this is work we do every week.

Footers and Foundation Digs

Everything that comes after depends on a foundation dug correctly. We excavate for footers and foundations to the builder's plans and layout, shaping the excavation so the footers and walls can be formed and poured. The work in our photo gallery shows what that looks like on real jobs, from footers cut into rocky ground to clean foundation excavations ready for concrete.

Backfill

Once the foundation is built, it has to be backfilled and brought back to grade. We handle backfill with the same crews and equipment that dug the hole, which keeps the process simple for the builder and the owner. Backfilling at the right time matters too, and it is one more reason weather and ground conditions get a straight conversation up front.

The Full Package Around the Foundation

A foundation is one step in a longer chain. We are a full-package excavation company, so we can also handle the work around it: clearing and site prep before the dig, underground utilities and pipe, and grading and topsoil after backfill. Having one company across those steps means fewer handoffs and fewer gaps between trades.

Our Own Trucks and Equipment

Foundation work moves a lot of material. We run our own dump trucks and haul our own stone, and we keep a fleet of roughly 45 to 50 pieces of equipment, including trucks and pickups, with a mechanic on staff. That keeps scheduling and equipment availability in our own hands, not dependent on outside suppliers or trucking.

Weather and Ground Conditions

We work year-round, as long as the weather lets us. Wet dirt cannot be moved well, and frozen ground has its own challenges, so rain and winter can push a project. We will tell you plainly when conditions are likely to affect your start date rather than promising a date we cannot keep.

What to Tell Us

  • The address and county, and whether the lot is cleared
  • The foundation type and size, and whether you have plans or staking
  • Your builder or contractor's schedule and when you need the dig
  • Access to the lot, including any tight spots or steep grades

Send the details through the contact form and we will take it from there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who do you dig foundations for?

A large share of our work is for area home builders, where we dig more than 250 houses a year. If you have a foundation project of your own, tell us about it through the contact form.

Do you handle backfill?

Yes. Backfilling after the foundation is built is part of the same service, handled by the crews and equipment that dug the excavation.

Do you work in winter?

We work year-round for the most part, as long as the weather allows. Wet or frozen ground can delay a project, and we will tell you if conditions are likely to affect your timeline.

Can you also grade and bring in stone?

Yes. We do grading and topsoil, and we haul our own stone with our own trucks, so those steps can be part of the same package.
