Large Pond Construction

Excavation and shaping for larger ponds, generally a half acre and up.

Valley Brook Services builds larger ponds, generally a half acre and up. A pond that size is a serious earthmoving job, and it takes the right machines, the right planning and the trucks to move the material. We do not build small ornamental ponds, so if your project is a larger pond, we are happy to talk about it.

What a Large Pond Project Involves

Building a pond starts with excavation: cutting the basin, shaping the banks and handling a large volume of dirt. Our photo gallery shows examples of that scale of earthwork. The images on this page are illustrative and show the kind of finished basin we mean, not a specific Valley Brook project.

Larger Ponds Only

We build ponds generally a half acre and up. Smaller ornamental or landscape ponds are not what we do. Being clear on that up front saves you time, and it keeps our crews focused on the earthmoving work we are set up for.

Equipment and Trucking for Big Earthwork

A pond that size moves a lot of dirt. We have excavators, dozers and our own dump trucks, and our crews work as a team. Having our own trucks matters when material has to be hauled in or out of a site.

Planning, Permits and Site Conditions

Larger ponds can involve township, county or state requirements, such as stormwater, watershed or wetlands rules, and the site itself, including soil, slope and where the water will come from, determines what is workable. Check what applies to your property early, and tell us what you know so we can plan the excavation around it.

Questions to Settle Before the First Cut

A pond is only as good as the site it is built on. Before digging, it helps to know where the water will come from, what the soil is like, how deep and how large the pond should be, where the dirt will go, and how equipment will get in and out. These questions shape the plan and the cost, and they are easier to answer on paper than after the excavator is on site. Tell us what you know and we will help you think through the rest.

What to Tell Us

  • The address and county
  • The approximate size you have in mind
  • Whether the site is open ground or needs clearing first
  • Any plans, engineering or permits you already have
  • Your timeline

Frequently Asked Questions

How big does a pond have to be for you to build it?

We build larger ponds, generally a half acre and up. We do not build small ornamental ponds.

Do you build ponds in Ohio?

Yes. Pond construction is excavation work, and our Ohio service area covers Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana Counties for site work.

Can you clear the site first?

Yes. Land clearing and site prep are part of our services, so they can be handled with the pond excavation.
